Julian Rouas Paris Small Claim

Ladies, raise your hand if you like to smell nice. Tap the Shift key if you like to smell nice without the whole room smelling you before they see you. Now press the space bar if you like to smell nice without being loud, and don't want to go broke in the process. I, for one, love all of the above. I'm flattered when I reach out to hug someone or walk by a person, and they stop me to ask "What is that you have on?" with a look of approval. There are so many items at regular drug stores that a woman can buy to smell delicious without spending a wad of cash while clearing people's sinuses.

Perfumes: Women spend hundred of dollars on perfume that is out of style within months. Why don't we ever buy knock-off perfumes? Companies like Parfums de Coeur specialize in making your favorite perfume for a price you can afford. From high school to mid-college, I wore Fly With Me perfume faithfully and got plenty of attention from brothas. Fly With Me is a knock-off version of Escape® perfume and smells the same. Quite a few guys stopped me on the street and asked me what I was wearing. Besides loving the attention, I enjoyed the fragrance as well. This company sells everything from body fantasies, skin musks, designer imposters, and juice bar items.
And even if you're not interested in knock-off perfumes or can't find your brand for a cheaper price, try out specialty stores, specifically women's stores like Bath and Body Works and Victoria's Secret. A couple years ago, I went on my usual bra shopping expedition to Victoria's Secret and passed by the fragrance section. Feeling experimental, I sprayed a touch of Heavenly perfume on my wrist and fell in love. The perfume ranges from $39 to $52, but the body spray was only $15. Just like that, my five-year favorite, Fly With Me, was dumped and in walked Heavenly. Even if you're not really into body spray, Victoria's Secret has body washes that are between $15 and $20. Same smell. Cheaper. It may not last as long, but same effect.

Body Wash: Everybody likes feeling refreshed after they've taken a shower, so why not feel clean and smell even better? There are plenty of body wash choices that can be bought at regular drug stores like Walgreens, Walmart, Kmart, Target, and Osco Drug. My favorites include Adidas body washes like Aloe Vera body wash for women and Citrus Oil body wash for women. Aloe vera is already a great moisturizer for skin, and it has a subtle, soothing scent to it. Two other scents that smell really delicious but aren't too strong are Dial's Soy & Almond Milk and Dial's Lavender & Twilight Jasmine. You can buy body washes like this for under $5, and if you shop at discount stores regularly, as cheap as $3. Check the weekly coupon books for deals on coupons and rebates.

Lotion: I'm partial to anything with aloe vera in it, specifically because I have very dry skin. Vaseline aloe vera lotion is always on my bathroom sink. As much as I like smell-good perfumes and body washes, I'm not big on scented lotion (minus Victoria's Secret Heavenly's glimmer lotion). But if you are, even specialty stores like Fashion Bug sell scented lotion, along with the regular scent stores like Bath and Body Works, where you can find 8 oz. lotion for $5. Bath and Body Works is always having some kind of clearance or sale. Be careful of lotions that are too fruity though. I once wore Juice Bar's Cotton Candy lotion and ended up with 43 mosquito bites in a month. That was the worst summer ever. I couldn't go outside because I kept getting bitten, and it took me awhile to figure out why so many mosquitoes were killing my arms and legs. Aloe vera is a great ingredient in lotion because it smells wonderful, moisturizes, and kills bugs all at the same time. You ever wonder why so many mosquito repellents come with aloe vera added?

Whatever you choose to wear, just make sure that the smell compliments you and your checking account. No sense in smelling great if you can't afford to go anywhere and let others enjoy.

Have you ever gotten ready in the morning, spritzed on your favorite scent, and a couple of hours later you got nothing? This can be exasperating. Why bother to apply scent if it's not going to last? In order to make sure that your uplifting scent lasts through the day or your sexy perfume lasts until the end of your romantic date, follow some or all of these suggestions.

First, be aware that there are different types of scent formulations. Each has a different concentration of fragrance oils. If you use body splash, it literally means to splash it on your body. It is the most diluted type of fragrance. Perfume is the strongest. Depending on the scent itself, it takes very little perfume. You could be having the opposite problem and overwhelming everyone. Be certain that you don't overdo it.

Second, be aware of pulse points. These are the areas of the body that have blood vessels very close to the skin. As the blood pulses, it produces heat. This in turn releases the scent of your perfume. The pulse points are located at the temples, behind the ears, the base of the throat, between the breasts, the wrists, the bend of the elbow, the backs of the knees, and the ankles.

Pay particular attention to the pulse points at the backs of the knees and the ankles. Since scent travels upward, these scent locations are very important. And most people skip these pulse points when applying perfume.

Another reason scent evaporates quickly is because of dry skin. Perfumes contain alcohol. So they can evaporate quickly. A way to prolong this is to apply lotion before perfume. A lotion that is the same scent is an excellent way to extend your perfume's lasting power. But if you don't have a matching lotion, apply an unscented lotion. If you decide to use a lotion with a different scent, make sure that it doesn't clash with your perfume. Often you can come up with unique and pleasing scent combinations. An example would be vanilla scented lotion applied before using a musk perfume.

Along the same line as using a lotion with the same scent is using soaps, body washes, powders, and even shampoos with the same fragrance as your perfume. Many more perfumes are coming out with extended product lines of their scents using additional bath products.

Your perfume can also be extended by spraying some onto your clothing. This should be tested first on a small inconspicuous area on the inside of your garment. Check to make sure that the perfume will not stain before applying it to the outside of your clothes.

An alternative to actually spraying perfume onto your clothing is to wear a scent locket or a scent ring. If you like this type of jewelry, it works great. A scent locket or ring contains a small compartment to place a small piece of cloth or cotton ball which has been sprayed liberally with your perfume. The rings are often called poison rings. An internet search turns up many websites that sell this unique jewelry. The heat from your body releases the scent as you wear the jewelry.

Then, of course, as a fail-safe guarantee, carry a small travel-size spritzer bottle of your favorite perfume to give yourself a quick spritzer during your lunch break or while in the powder room.

Today, it seems every celebrity has a perfume scent with their name attached to it. From Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely, to Britney Spears' and Beyonce Knowles' lines of fragrance to the classics of Chanel and Dior, there are hundreds of bottles to choose from. But how do you find the right one?

First answer, of course, is ignore the brand name or label. Just because Jennifer Lopez says you won't end up smelling like a skunk doesn't mean you won't. Choose a smell based on how it smells on your skin, and your personal tastes.

There are several basic themes which perfume manufacturers stick to: Chypre, citrus, floral, and ambers. Chypre scents have a woody, mossy, floral base to them. Citrus scents incorporate orange, lemon, tangerine, and grapefruit, much like Calvin Kline's CK One. Floral smells just as it sounds, like flowers. An example of a floral scent would be Chance by Chanel. Ambers have a delightful mix of musk, vanilla, spice, and animal scents, such as Obsession.

Once you've decided on a category of perfume to try, go to your nearest perfume counter. Try a few scents out on paper before deciding on one to put to the test. Apply to the back of your hand, and then wait an hour. If you do apply the perfume to your wrist, avoid rubbing your wrists together. This can crush the delicate buds of scent and distort the sampling. It isn't how a perfume smells in the bottle or immediately after application, it's how it reacts with your skin chemistry much later that can make or break a scent as one for you.

The reason behind this is perfumes have four layers. The first layer, or top note, is the first scent you get after applying the perfume. It's the most noticeable, but is also the one the fades the quickest. The next layer, or middle note, is the next apparent component to the perfume. It appears several minutes after applying the perfume, and can stay up to an hour before disappearing. The third layer, or base note, appears usually after a half hour and is the layer that stays on your skin throughout the day. And the final layer is one most overlook, the natural scent of your skin. Just like everyone's DNA is different, everyone has a unique skin chemistry that can affect the outcome of a perfume.

Overview

Pac Sun's Lilu perfume quickly gained a cult following amongst both teen girls and their mothers, who were clamoring to snatch up as much of this coveted fragrance as possible. So why on earth was it discontinued?

An Instant Classic

When Lilu perfume was initially released at national retailer Pac Sun, it instantly gained a large following. Pac Sun describes the fragrance as evoking the floral and "breezy" scents of the South Pacific and the Hawaii Islands.

Suddenly Discontinued

Lilu was discontinued on July 24, 2008, with no explanation from Pac Sun. While bottles of the fragrance are occasionally seen in various Pac Sun locations throughout the United States, the company is no longer producing Lilu perfume.

Check Local Stores

Check your local PacSun location for the Lilu perfume - Although it has been discontinued for over a year, some fans of the scent have reported success by scoping out their local PacSun retailer for a few unsold bottles of this treasured perfume.

Last Place to Buy Lilu

There is one more place where you can still purchase Lilu - That is, for a price. Online auction house eBay has listings for the discontinued fragrance, but a bottle may cost you: One listing for a .5 ounce bottle of Lilu was priced at $49.95.

Try an Alternate Scent

If you are dying for a Lilu fix but unwilling to pay exorbitant prices on eBay, there are some alternatives to Lilu that you could try. Lacoste's "Love of Pink" has a great floral scent, as does "Happy" by Clinique.

Make Your Voice Heard

If you are unwilling to simply switch over to a Lilu impersonator, then make your voice heard to Pac Sun. Visit the "contact us" section of the Pac Sun website (www.pacsun.com) and let them know that you would love to see Lilu back in stores.

It's happens to all of us. You're standing in a room or passing by a crowded street or sidewalk and all of the sudden, a truly tantalizing scent catches you completely by surprise. Almost unconsciously, your head swivels as you crane your neck to catch a glimpse of the one who nearly lifted you off your feet with such an arousing fragrance.

The general consensus seems to point out that scent is the strongest sense tied to memory. Selecting the right fragrance to suit you becomes a sort of art as you attempt to find the perfect blend between flirty flowers, juicy fruits, musk and more.

Once you find the ideal scent to match your personality - sexy, playful, subtle and so forth - you can begin to take advantage of the powerful impact fragrance has on members of the opposite sex. Consider investing in a travel-sized vial of your preferred perfume as well, so you can easily transport it and always have it with you for a quick freshening up.

As you become comfortable with your new fragrance, take things to the next level by introducing it into your love life. If you won't see your sweetheart for a number of days or weeks, be sure to pen a passionate love letter, and don't forget to spritz a little of your perfume on the stationery before you pour your heart onto it. If you're feeling especially daring (or sappy) you can complete the romantic effect by sealing the envelope with a lipstick smooch.

Another great tactic is to spray a bit of perfume on yourself just before you borrow an article of his clothing. If you'll be wearing his jacket for a while in the colder weather, spray a little perfume on the back of your neck without getting any directly on his coat. This way it will subtly adhere to the coat's collar so he notices your fragrance and thinks of you immediately the next time he wears it. If you forget to bring your pajamas and have to borrow a t-shirt one night, just spray a tiny bit of your fragrance on your body to gently introduce it onto his clothing. Whether he wears the shirt again or washes it when he gets it back, he's sure to recognize your fragrance.

For the grand finale, linger in bed just a little while longer than your honey does. When he leaves the room to brush his teeth or shower, spritz some perfume on his pillow, either on top or bottom, or a little bit on both sides. This tactic is especially effective if you won't see each other for a little while, because you know you will be the last thing he thinks about before he falls to sleep, and also the first thing he imagines when he wakes up. As soon as his head hits the pillow you will be on his mind, and if not in his arms, what better place to be?

Seductive Places to Target with Your Perfume:
- Spray a little perfume on letters and birthday or holiday cards.
- Let a little of your fragrance remain on his clothing that he lets you borrow.
- Apply a little perfume to your pulse points while you are in his car so the fragrance lingers just a bit.
- Leave him a gentle, sexy reminder by spraying a little bit of perfume on his pillow, especially when you won't be around.
- If he keeps a blanket in his car or draped across his couch, be sure to introduce just a touch of your favorite fragrance so he thinks of you right away when he uses it.

Perfume is a wonderful invention, allowing you to make your presence known, even in your absence! Get creative and realize that this aromatic accessory can enhance your romantic side, intrigue your partner and bring your face to mind even when you aren't physically present. Instigate more intimate moments with a spritz here and there of a sexy, flirty fragrance. You won't regret it!

If you’re looking for a special gift for a woman you know, perfume is always a good choice. It’s also always nice to save money, so here is a round-up of some of the best selling perfume for women, under $50.

5th Avenue Eau de Parfum Spray 1 fl oz – Average Street Price: $40

5th Avenue’s Eau du Parfum Spray offers a floral bouquet, that’s not overpowering. The top notes include delicate fragrances like lilac, mixed with stronger fragrances like magnolia. The heart notes bring in some spice, with nutmeg, ginger and a hint of violet. The bottom notes are finished off with amber, sandalwood and vanilla. This perfume is perfect for a woman who likes floral scent, but prefers a little spicy mystery too.

Elizabeth Arden Red Door Revealed Eau de Parfum Touch-On Pen .23 fl ounces – Average Street Price $20

This timeless classic scent is now available in a handy touch-pen, which makes quick applications even easier. The size is small, which is necessary for its on-to-go usage, but it should last for a longer time, if used sparingly. The top notes include pink peony and mackay orchid, while the heart notes bring in a little bit of lily and orange flower petals. A stronger musk base is layered with black amber for a finishing touch.

Passion for Women Eau de Toilette Spray 1.5 fl oz (44 ml) Average Street Price: $39.00

This perfume has been a favorite for many women for decades. It blends in some oriental notes with ylang ylang and jasmine, but livens up these sometimes heavy scents with top notes of roses and lily of the valley. The bottom notes give this perfume its signature appeal, and include Indian sandalwood, American cedarwood with a touch of incense. This perfume can be heavy, if over applied, but with just the right amount, it’s an interesting mix of floral and musk scents.

Urban Decay Fragrance – Average Street Price $29.50

Urban Decay has quickly come on the market as one of the hottest new perfume manufacturers. This signature fragrance is light and airy and perfect for a younger woman, or any woman who enjoys a mix of fruity and earthy scents. The top notes include Yuzu, which is a citrus tree found in Japan, as well as grapefruit. The bottom notes of lavender, oceanic musk combine well with the heart note of fresh-cut grass. This is truly a fun perfume that is not overpowering.

Curious by Britney Spears Eau de Parfum, Spray 1 fl oz – Average Street Price $29.50

Curious has been a hit with younger buyers and offers a fruity mix of Anjou pears with the stronger scent of Louisiana magnolias. The bottom notes include vanilla and sandalwood, to balance out the fruity and flowery notes. The heart notes provide an interesting completion by mixing star jasmine with pink cyclamen.

Calvin Klein CK Be Eau de Toilette Pour/Spray 1.7 fl oz (50 ml) – Average Street Price $28.00

While this scent never enjoyed the popularity of CK One, it is still a favorite for many buyers. The second unisex cologne from Calvin Klein is a bit heavier than the first and includes notes of bergamot, juniper berry and white musk. The heart notes bring in a spicier tone mixed with fruit, while the bottom notes finish off the scent with sandalwood and tonka bean.

BVLGARI Black Eau de Toilette 1.3 fl oz (40 ml) - Average Street Price: $46.00

Bvlgari Black is another unisex favorite that is meant to last for hours. This is a perfect fragrance for a woman who doesn’t want to have to keep reapplying her perfume throughout the day. The top notes include black tea and bergamot, while the heart notes even the balance with cedar and vanilla. The spicy bottom notes include sandalwood and musk and provide a strong base for the above notes.

I used to like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen; that was until I saw their mugs pasted on the PETA website. Turns out the twins like fur... I like animals... so now, the girls suck. But hey, so does their perfume!!!

I have had 2 bottles of perfume by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for quite some time now. One is labeled, coincidentally...One. The other is called Two. Today though, we're going to focus on One.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, One, is actually made by Coty. A designer name that has been popping up a lot lately. I have mixed feelings when it comes to Coty fragrances. I don't love the designer fragrances, nor do I hate them.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, One, has sad on my desk for nearly a year now. I got both from a friend for my birthday, and ever since first smelling them, I never really used it again.

Bottle:

One comes in a cylinder shaped bottle. The glass is clear with a very slight tint of blue added in. Running down the length of the bottle is the name of the perfume. There is nothing special about the bottle, nor would anyone want to save it once the perfume was gone.

Scent:

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, One, by Coty smells like blueberry mixed with hand soap. It is supposed to be a clean, fresh scent. However I got a soapy blueberry bubble gum scent. It's not really that natural, but it is a relatively playful scent.

I liked it. I really did. Even though the scent was not a natural one, or sophisticated one, it was still a pleasant one.

Last:

So I liked the scent... however there is no point in liking a scent that does not last for longer than 5 minutes. That was seriously all I got out of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, One, by Coty. The scent smelled lovely for 5 minutes, and then it vanished; up and disappeared... not a hint, not a trace...just gone.

Recommended Wear:

What wear? There is no wear to recommend wear.

Overall:

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, One, by Coty is a nice scent, it truly is. Sadly though, nice scents are 100% useless if they do not last. For me Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, One, is a waste of natural resources. It's sad that they would release such a suck-o-rama in a bottle.

Pricing and Availability:

You can still see this crummy stick of perfume in local stores such as Walmart, Kohl's and other department stores. The pricing is around $10.00 for the bottle. You can also buy them in gift sets, which would include both One, and Two.

Sadly though, I do not even find One, to be worth $1.00.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, One, by Coty is a skip in my opinion. It just does not stick around long enough for me to go ahead and recommend it.

Perfume, spray it there .. by J’adore Allure

While many women love perfume and may even have their own signature scent, the cost of purchasing a bottle can be prohibitively expensive. Why spend $50 or more on a tiny eau de toilette when you can make a completely unique scent of your own for a fraction of the cost? Save money and make a truly original creation with just a few simple steps.

The Basics

According to the Natural Holistic Health Blog, a basic perfume formula contains 15 to 30 percent essential oils, 70 to 80 percent pure grain alcohol (vodka being recommended, as it doesn't have any additional odors or colors), and 5 percent distilled water. Adding a bit of glycerine at the end of the process is also recommended, as it will help to "fix" your perfume and keep the scent from disappearing into the air or escaping the bottle. Both glycerine and essential oils are easy to find at health food stores or even craft supply shops. Pick the kind of scents you like, when choosing essential oils, and remember that you can choose to mix and match them in order to create the perfect scent.

Necessary Supplies

Along with your basic perfume ingredients, you will also want to gather together the following items before you get started: a glass mixing jar, dedicated measuring cups and spoons, an eyedropper, a funnel and aperfume bottles or other small containers in which you can store your final product.

Method

Instructables.com offers step-by-step instructions on how to make your perfume at home. The basic procedure is as follows:

1. Measure 1/4 cup of vodka into your mixing jar.

2. Add about 25 drops of your essential oils, making sure to keep track of how many drops you've added if you are mixing scents. It may help to keep a tally on a sheet of paper, as you should add drops, swirl the mixture, and then smell as you go to make sure you don't make an overpowering scent.

3. When you've got your desired scent, seal up the mixing jar and put it into a cool, dark spot to age for at least 48 hours. The longer you age the perfume, the stronger it will become, so feel free to sniff and add more oils after the first 48 hours has passed.

4. After you've aged the perfume, add 2 tablespoons of distilled water. For spray perfumes, add a bit more water. Now is also the time to add about 5 drops of glycerine to fix the fragrance.

5. Finally, use the funnel to pour your perfume into its bottle and apply a label with the name of your new creation. You may also want to add the date so you'll know how long your perfume lasts, and when it's time to make some more!

Additional Recipes

There are lots of basic recipes on-line for perfumes, if you're not interested in tinkering with smells at first and just want to get started. Check out PioneerThinking.com for recipes with exotic names like Orient Nights, Whispering Rain, Falling Stars, Enchanted, Amaze, and Misty Passions. They've also got recipes for cologne, for the men in your life, including something called the Homemade Love Tonic!

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is all about using scents to change your mood, so you might be interested in reading up on this topic before you begin. For a crash course in aromatherapy, check out Aromaweb.com, where you can read up on a variety of different kinds of essential oil profiles and find out how a particular scent can contribute to your overall well-being. An article from HowToDoThings.com on making perfume suggests a few quick fixes, including the following: "Jasmine and lavender can calm the anxious and aid in sleeping, orange and ylang ylang can ease anger, and sandalwood and grapefruit can fight fear. Need a boost of confidence? Try cypress or rosemary. Frankincense, rose, and bergamot can help relieve depression and grief. To increase memory powers, try black pepper and peppermint."

Notes

Finally, if you really want to get technical with your home perfume making, you should learn about notes. These are the order in which certain scents appear in a given fragrance, where the top note is the initial scent, the middle note is what you'll smell after the top note has dissolved into the air, and the base note is what lingers at the end. The Instructables directions on how to make perfume give a quick primer regarding what kinds of scents generally fall into each category, and suggest that when mixing your own perfume, you should built from the base notes up.

Typical base notes include heavy smells like patchouli, vetiver, frankincense, cedarwood and sandalwood. Middle notes are slightly less heavy, and include coriander, palmarosa, marjoram, basil, rosemary, rose geranium, pettitgrain and lavender. Top notes usually include lighter scents like lemon, orange, grapefruit, lime, bergamot, spearmint and peppermint.

Recreating Brand-Name Perfumes

Though brand-name perfumes are usually carefully guarded trade secrets, there is a website that can help you out if you're looking to re-create your favorite perfume at home. It's called the Basenotes Fragrance Directory, and although it only offers rough approximations, it can point you in the right direction by breaking down the list of scents that make up each of the notes found in your favorite department store perfumes. You may not be able to find all of the ingredients, however, as this is what you're spending the big bucks for! As one example: Calvin Klein's Obsession uses middle notes of tagete, which comes from marigold flowers, and armoise, which is actually an oral toxin and must be used very sparingly. Since these items are not likely to be readily available in your local health food store, you may want to weigh the pros and cons of creating your own fragrances versus shelling out the money for your favorite store-bought scents.

Did you know you could make homemade solid perfume in fragrances of your choice? Many people don't realize how easy it truly is to create their very own special homemade fragrances. If you have a difficult time finding perfume you like, or if you just want to have fun experimenting with fragrances, give the following homemade perfume recipe a try. You can even add sparkles that will add a touch of glitz and glamour to your skin, and you can experiment by combining various scents to create unique signature fragrances. Share your homemade perfume with others and you might even end up with special requests for the unique scents you create in your home.

Perfume in a Jar

Before beginning, you'll need small containers in which to store your homemade perfume. Small plastic containers with lids can be found in the storage section of most discount stores, and as long as they are heat-resistant, they are fine for this project. Alternately you can search craft stores for small decorative jars that are much more attractive. They are the best option if you plan on giving your homemade perfume as a gift.

To make homemade perfume in a jar you'll need 4 ounces of natural beeswax, 6 ounces of shea butter, 8 ounces of olive oil, and 2 ounces of fragrant oil of your choice. You'll also need a double boiler, and if you want your perfume to shimmer and glisten, consider buying very fine glitter.

Begin by melting the beeswax in a double boiler over moderate heat. After the beeswax has melted, stir in the shea butter, and continue stirring until the two are well mixed. In a small bowl, mix the olive oil with the fragrant oil, and stir this mixture into the melted beeswax and shea butter. Stir in a small amount of very fine glitter if desired.

While the mixture is still warm, carefully pour it into small decorative jars, and allow it to continue cooling before covering and storing. This homemade perfume recipe makes approximately 18 ounces of solid fragrance.

Gift Giving Ideas

Homemade perfume in decorative jars makes a wonderful gift for those who appreciate fine fragrances. Consider making an attractive gift basket including several decorative jars containing various scents. Label each jar with a custom-made peel and stick label, and include your own special sentiments. Line the gift basket with shredded colored tissue paper, and place the jars inside. Surround the basket with clear cellophane, and tie the top with colorful paper twist or ribbons of your choice. Anyone who loves fragrances will be delighted to receive this very special and exceptionally impressive homemade gift.

150 people were affected by a person who sprayed perfume. 34 of these people had to be taken to the hospital. This happened in Fort Worth, Texas but is by no means the only incident of people being sickened, literally, by perfume being sprayed.

We all remember the smokers being taken to task over their cigarette smoke which ended up with most of the country banning cigarette smoking in work places, bars, restaurants and most "public" areas. Not only that, cigarettes were deemed to be the biggest and baddest cause of almost every cancer known to man. We allowed those nasty ole' cigarette smokers to be taxed (what most would consider unlawfully) until they were forced to quit or they were forced to hide in their homes hoping that no one would get a "whiff" of smoke. Ah, we sure did teach smokers a thing or two about "their" smoke perfume!

All the while the chided smokers were trying to explain that almost any of them would willingly put out a cigarette if it bothered someone. They tried to explain that cigarette smoke, especially second hand smoke, was NOT the culprit of all cancers. People complaining of cigarette smoke were even asked if there could be another cause of their discomfort. Guess what? Perfume! Yes, perfume.

I remember one of the biggest anti-smoking people in our county was a large woman who did not know what a "spritz" of perfume was. She lathered it on until you were looking for the exits or a gas mask. But she was brazen enough to complain about someone smoking in a bar (that she never went in).

We've all been there, a restaurant, church, classroom, shopping aisle and yes a bar, when someone will walk in and the place turns to weeping eyes and sneezing. How well do you think people take it when asked to "remove" their perfume? But due to stories like the people above who fell ill due to someone's perfume I believe people are starting to look at perfume as the next cigarette.

Will they install a heavy tax on perfume like on cigarettes? Some have banned perfume in the workplace, will that carry on to public places as well? Will perfumed products like body and laudry soap be banned? Or maybe they will simply ban perfume on any level and in any product.

Perfume can make people sick. Perfume can make people sick that aren't even wearing it. More and more articles and studies are being written on perfume and the hazards of some of them. Yes, I vaguely see perfume as the new cigarette.

Perfume by •*¨*•.¸¸ optimus prime ¸¸.•*¨*•

It's happened to us all. You see an attractive women, neatly dressed, and think she looks fantastic. Then you follow her into an elevator or other enclosed space and you nearly choke from the overwhelming fumes of her perfume.

Perfume and cologne can enhance the overall appearance and feel of a person. The intoxicating scent that is complimentary to a person simply increases their overall attractiveness, but when perfume is applied wrong, the effects can actually decrease your overall attractiveness.

Let's look at a few hints and tips for applying perfume or cologne so that it increases attractiveness while not overpowering the senses.

First, when selecting a fragrance at a store, you should always try a sample of the fragrance on your skin first. Perfume and cologne are developed in such a way as to combine with your natural scent and your body chemistry to create a fragrance that is unique to you. They was a perfume smells straight from the bottle will be very different than how it smells on your skin. It's always best to try a sample on your wrist and wait ten minutes after applying it to decide if you like the fragrance.

Secondly, your sense of smell is much stronger later in the day and during warmer weather, so when selecting fragrances at the store, try to shop in the afternoon or early evening versus in the morning.

Colder weather reduces scents, so stronger perfumes and colognes can be selected when the weather is cooler and lighter scents can be used when the weather becomes warmer. Wearing the same fragrance all year may not be the best choice, because weather changes often change how a scent smells and how strong it is. It's best to have two or three favorite scents.

Now that you have selected your fragrance, learning how to apply it is as important as the fragrance itself.

If you have dry skin, perfumes are oil based, and are a better choice, whereas someone with oilier skin can use cologne for the same strength of fragrance. The oil of the skin or the oil in the perfume will help the fragrance spread on the skin and increase the duration of the scent.

Ironically, deodorant soaps and lotions can actually cause your fragrance to not work or to be greatly weakened. If you are going to wear perfume of cologne, do not use a deodorant soap on your skin prior to applying the perfume. However, it is a good idea to apply perfume or cologne shortly after a shower or bath, because the water and heat from bathing opens pours, thus allowing the perfume to absorb into the skin and release the fragrance better.

If you only want a light fragrance that is not blended with your own scent, one option is to spray the perfume of cologne into the air and walk through the mist of the scent. This will provide a very light scent that mostly is on your clothing or hair, and thus the scent will not be as unique to your own body chemistry. The scent may not last as long when applied this way.

As for where to apply perfume, it has long been recommended to apply perfume to what are known as the pulse points of the body. When doing this, the perfume or cologne is said to spread my quickly and these areas of the body are slightly warmer and will provide a stronger fragrance.

Some of these areas include: behind the ear, at the temple of the forehead, center of the neck, each wrist, behind the knee. Either a light spray or a small dab of fragrance on each of these locations will help your fragrance last all day.

Remember, other people can smell your fragrance much stronger than you can, especially after you have been wearing it for some time, because you will have become acclimated to the fragrance. Most of the time, there is no need to reapply a fragrance during the course of an average day unless you have showered or sweated profusely. However, adding more fragrance when going out for the evening should be acceptable.

Many people are sensitive to fragrance, and the point is not to cause an allergy attack in someone or to overpower them with your scent. The scent should be subtle, a part of who you are, not the first thing someone notices about you, and then can't forget because your scent lingers in the room stronger and more powerfully than you do!

IMMEDIATE STRESS RELIEF

1/52 Serious Comedy by TaishiMatsumoto

During the summer of 2003 in the basement of Club Neva, a New York City nightclub which offered an open mike for comedians, an idea was born in George Sarris' head. He thought, "Why wasn't there an event locally, that featured some of the best unknown and emerging talent in the country." That idea prompted Sarris to team with partner Jim Mendrinos, and create the New York City Underground Comedy Festival. Sarris' tremendous work ethic partnered with Mendrino's industry knowledge led to the culmination of a three day Comedy Festival held at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in 2003.

Fast forward three years and two festivals later, the laugh fest enters it's 4th run  spanning all 5 New York City boroughs and even stretching over the river into New Jersey's Stress Factory.  Since it's inception the Festival which strives to feature emerging comedians has made a huge industry impact. It has sent showcased comedians yearly to The HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, CO., the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, and features a Live Audition for CBS' Late Show with David Letterman. Impressive by those credentials alone, it goes on to impress by helping comedians get notcied by the casting people for The E! Network, Warner Brothers, and Comedy Central.

Besides being a helpful tool for established and emerging comedians alike, they offer several charity shows to raise money for such causes as Operation Uplink a VFW charity that allows troops overseas to get free phone cards to call home with. It also offers free shows at Memorial Sloan Kettring Hospital titled "Comedy Fights Cancer" which is a private show for patients and family and a fundraiser for The Pati Vitale Fund a charity set up for an ailing comedienne. The festival also looks to help the established and new comedians alike by offering "Stand Up Comedy: The Business" seminar a completely free interactive workshop intended to help comedians learn about the business side of comedy directly from industry professionals.

Throughout the ten day festival many different types of comedy shows and all different types of comedy will be showcased. Designed by the producers, many shows are geared for different audiences allowing people to choose exactly which type of shows they can see and in what form. Fans of completely clean comedy will be happy to know that there is a Clean Show on Saturday September 16th at 6 P.M. at the Laugh Lounge in New York's lower east side.

Some of the Most Interesting shows of this year include LA's HotBox Comedy Troupe, a sketch and standup comedy group featuring 7 gorgeous LA based women, in a 1AM Pajama Party show were all entertainers perform in their Saturday Night's best Sept. 17th at the New York Improv. Also raising some interest is a show titled "Laughing Liberally: Saving Democracy One Laugh at a Time" which premieres at 8PM September 8th at the 45th St. Theatre.

The Festival also features many established headliner comedians; besides the emerging talent. Comedians such as Jim Norton, Eddie Brill, Rick Overton, Bonnie McFarlane, Pablo Francisco, Ted Alexandro, Jim Gaffigan, Todd Barry, Bob Nelson, Jim David, Jessica Kirson, Judah Friedlander, Kevin Meaney, Laurie Kilmartin, Patrice O'Neal, Rich Vos, Rick Shapiro, The Rev. Bob Levy, Rick Overton, Tom Cotter, Wali Collins, "The Dean of The Friars Club: Freddie Roman", and many more will be bringing their A game every night throught the city.

The only thing more impressive then the New York Underground Comedy Festival's enormous growth [(It even has it's own Fire Marshal Alan Schwartz, a 22 year old Comedian from the Bronx)] in such a short amount of time is it's executive producer. George Sarris, has a work ethic that would make 20 amish men think they're lazy.  That same atribute allowed him to rise from being a paige on Wall Street to Owning a Seat on the New York Stock Exchange, before giving it all up shortly after September 11th, to go on a new career path. "All of my partners are on Greens right now on  islands, wearing bermuda shorts and playing golf. That's just not me" Says the producer Sarris. Except for the fact that he is well known for his Bermuda shorts, he takes that statement to heart. His career in comedy started as a comedian, until he realized his talents would be best suited for producing it, and shaping and defining new comedians' carrers.

The New York Underground Comedy Festival Runs from September 8th-17th stretching across 5 boroughs, and two states  it features over 50 venues, 200 plus comics, 300 shows, 3 charities, and a great time for anyone who can use a laugh. More information can be found at the Festival's website: http://www.nycundergroundcomedy.com

Calvin Klein is a famous designer who has launched many clothing lines for men and women as well as fragrant lines including Calvin Klein Eternity perfume for women. The Calvin Klein Eternity perfume was launched in 1989 and remains an ever popular Calvin Klein perfume. With so many other options on the market for a buy is the Calvin Klein Eternity perfume a versatile fragrance for all women? Time to find out!

The box of the Calvin Klein Eternity perfume is nothing really special compared to all the other scents on the market. The bottle of the Eternity perfume is square with a silver push down scent dispenser. Each dispense from the Calvin Klein perfume is perfect for those scent points on a lady. The bottle of the Eternity perfume is actually quite elegant. The glass of the Calvin Klein Eternity scent is very smooth and crystal like. This Calvin Klein perfume also is infused with a blend of greens, crisp jasmine, basil, sage, and rosewood. Calvin Klein Eternity is a practical perfume for any women. The Eternity perfume is pretty versatile that it can be worn for day and night use. This Calvin Klein perfume is very mystique and not overbearing. The Eternity perfume does seem to be strong at first when putting it on; however, after an hour or so it wears off quickly with just a linger.

Calvin Klein Eternity can be found at most department stores such as: Wal-Mart, Macy's, The Bon-Ton, and numerous others. This Calvin Klein perfume is widely distributed. The Eternity perfume can also be found online at various vendors and on EBay. The cost of a 3.4 fluid ounce bottle of this Calvin Klein perfume varies amongst stores but runs roughly around $50.00.

I would recommend this Calvin Klein Eternity Perfume for those who shy away from floral scents. The scent of this Calvin Klein perfume aims more toward a shower fresh aroma then a girly-girl fragrance. The Eternity perfume is practical for everyday use for all women in all age groups.

HIRE A COMEDIAN NYHYSTERICALSOCIETY.COM

King of Comedy by chitofran

There are horror films and then there are horror films, but if that's what you're looking for then you won't find it here. What you will find in BRUTAL MASSACRE: A COMEDY is one of the best self-referential horror-comedies to ever come around in quite a long time. You wouldn't think so at first look from its story about an over the hill horror film director Harry Penderecki (David Naughton) who has one last chance to turn his luck around with his "can't miss" screenplay BRUTAL MASSACRE, but you see, no matter what Pendereck does his productions are always plagued by misfortune and bad luck.

Along for the ride in Penderecki's last chance is his assistant director Jay (Brian O'Halloran), his producer Natalie (Ellen Sandweiss), his cinematographer Hanu (Gerry Bednob), and his best boy electrician Carl (Ken Foree). Writter & director Stevan Mena unveils the truth about indie filmmaking, maybe even a little too much, and the the film is all the better for it. Naughton creates a tragic yet very likable Penderecki whom you just can't help but to emphasize with.

Another great asset is the amazing supporting cast whom any classic & cult horror fan will recognize from FROM BEYOND and DAWN OF THE DEAD's (both versions) Foree to TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE's Gunnar Hansen, who is hands down the best character in the film and will keep you laughing from being to end (why he never did comedy before this film is anyone's guess since its obvious that it comes naturally to him).

Naughton is in top form as the luckless Penderecki and it's a shame that up until now his career has been over shadowed by his turn in AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. Director Mena has done an excellent job at balancing the comedy and "horror" elements of the film while also maintaining the film's integrity of presenting an "honest" look into indie filmmaking. Definitely one of the films to look out for.

A rainy day on the Perfume River by NaPix -- Hmong Soul

My mom and I are thrift store junkies. We go in looking for deals that you cannot find anywhere else. Sometimes we get extremely lucky, and other times we come out empty handed.

We hit this one local thrift store up weekly because they seem to have new inventory every Friday. Hitting the thrift store up on a Saturday can sometimes result in winning the mini designer lottery. At times we find two dollar designer clothes, bags, and sometimes; perfume.

I was not able to hit up the local spot this week, but my mom did.

She rushed inside with a paper bag filled with what appeared to be designer perfumes. I could hear them clanging against one another and I could not wait to see what she had gotten hold of. I looked inside of the bag, and she huddled around it, as if she had to protect her findings from me.

She hit the designer perfume gold mine, and she bought all she could find, no wonder she didn't want me looking in. She wanted them ALL for herself.

Inside I noted all types of brands that I knew I would like. From Chanel, to Donna Karan. Some of the bottles were half empty, and others still had their seals on them. Some we already had, and some we had never heard of.

Amarige by Givenchy was one perfume in particular that I had never heard of. I have heard of Givenchy in the past, but I was never familiar with the brand, or this particular scent.

Appearance:

Amarige came in its original red box, with gold lettering. A bit of dust had collected on the box, but inside the perfume was barely touched.

The bottle itself is shaped like a human heart (at least that s what it looks like to me). The bottles top looks like a soft serve ice cream swirl, which is actually sort of pretty, and unique.

My Use:

I sprayed some of the rusty water colored perfume on to my wrists, and immediately got hit with the overpowering scent of grandmothers. It was like a granny festival on my wrist. This crap stunk, and it stunk bad.

It has that first kick of granny, then a high impact punch of rotting dried up roses, and...rust.

Good find mom!

Pricing and Availability:

After sniffing this horrendous granny spray I of course had to look the brand up before writing this review. I wanted to bring to you the price of this gunk, and where to find (eh-hem...avoid) this perfume.

Amarige by Givenchy can be found at any local perfume store, ranging from $10 to a jaw dropping $70.00 (for the granny gift set).

Overall:

Amarige by Givency smells like your grandma. It stinks to the high heavens, and it lasts a really, really long time. If you want to test the scent, make sure you DO NOT spray it on your clothing, as it will stay...till you wash the clothing.

-I guess if you find it at a thrift store; barely used, something must be wrong.

Recommendation:

Negative.

Amarige by Givenchy is definitely not a perfume I would recommend. (Maybe for Granny, seeing how that's about the only person who would like this one).

Quatsch Comedy Club 2 - Live & Unzensiert by 3min.de

“All things that we ordained festival / Turn from their office to black funeral: / Our instruments to melancholy bells, / Our wedding cheer to a sad burial feast, / Our solemn hymns to sullen dirges change” (IV.5.84-88). This proclamation by Capulet, upon Juliet’s death, serves well to illustrate an important aspect of Romeo and Juliet; this play is neither a strict comedy, nor an absolute tragedy; this play is, rather, a fusion of both genres, with the comic movement of the first two acts turned to tragedy in Act III, Scene 1 with the deaths of Mercutio and Tybalt. In her article “Beyond Comedy: Romeo and Juliet”, Susan Snyder makes this point by asserting, “In the early play a well-developed comic movement is diverted into tragedy by mischance” (Snyder 171); Snyder’s assertion is dead-on in this regard, as, with the deaths of Mercutio and Tybalt, Romeo and Juliet makes an abrupt turn from comedy to tragedy. While this statement is an excellent observation of this hybrid genre which Shakespeare has presented, Snyder’s further claim that, following the death of Mercutio at the hands of Tybalt, “Romeo’s future is now determined: he must kill Tybalt, he must run away” (Snyder 178) is inaccurate, as Romeo makes his own choice in this matter, and, in doing so, seals his own fate.

Romeo and Juliet begins as a comedy, then later moves to tragedy. As Snyder tells us of this hybrid subgenre of “Italianate tragedy of love and intrigue” (Snyder 171), “its sources are typically novelle rather than well-known histories, its heroes are of lesser rank [than in tragedy], its situations are private rather than public, its main force is love” (Snyder 171). All of these criteria are filled in Romeo and Juliet, as its source is indeed novelle, while the characters, while nobles, are not kings, queens, or even princes; both the feud and the relationship of Romeo and Juliet are private matters, and the driving force behind the play is obviously love. In comedy, the rigid laws that govern a given society are proven to be changeable; “It renders impotent the imperatives of time” (Snyder 173). We find this to be the case in Romeo and Juliet, as the law, in this case the feud between Montagues and Capulets, is set up to be changed in the beginning, as the marriage of Romeo to Juliet is expected to ease the already waning tensions between the two families. This is, in fact, the entire reason Friar Laurence agrees to marry the two, as a means toward ending the feud; still thinking Romeo to be in love with Rosaline, the Friar reacts with surprise to Romeo’s request to be married to Juliet, but agrees immediately to perform the ceremony, “For this alliance may so happy prove / To turn your households’ rancor to pure love” (II.4.91-92).

Further, “the feud functions in Romeo very much as the various legal restraints do in Shakespearean comedy” (Snyder 175), as it gives the play its rigid law, or social restriction, which appears on its way to being eased up until Act III, Scene 1’s “shift” into tragedy, which cements it irrevocably in place. If this were a true comedy, the couple would eventually be married, and the feud ended; since this is not pure comedy, however, events proceed in the opposite direction. All is going well until Tybalt kills Mercutio, beneath the arm of separating Romeo, at which point the feud, apparently on the verge of being completely absolved by everyone save for Tybalt, is returned to the forefront. Here we have probably the most important moment in the play, as Romeo is forced to make the most important choice of his life; he can kill Tybalt, avenging his friend’s murder while plunging both families back into the bloody feud and creating considerable difficulties for himself and his future bride, or simply drop it: have Tybalt, the only one set on continuing the feud, arrested, punished, and out of the way, and marry Juliet, most likely ending the feud, and allowing them to live together in Verona, happily and legally.

As we know, Romeo chooses the former solution, thereby getting himself banished and turning Romeo and Juliet in a truly tragic direction. As Snyder states, “helplessness is the most striking feature of the second, tragic world of Romeo…Under pressure of events, the feud turns from farce to fate; tit for tat becomes blood for blood” (Snyder 178). The feud is now cemented as Romeo kills Tybalt in retribution; following with the tenets of tragedy, “tragic law cannot be altered, and tragic time cannot be suspended” (Snyder 173); just as important is the fact that, in a tragedy, events are irrevocable, in that “they will never happen again, and one by one they move the hero closer to the end of his own personal time” (Snyder 173). This is certainly the case here, as the progression hereon moves steadily downhill for the young lovers up until their eventual deaths. Romeo kills Tybalt, resulting in both his banishment and Capulet’s decision to marry Juliet to Paris. These events cause Juliet to follow Friar Laurence’s plan, which leaves Romeo thinking Juliet dead, for which reason he commits suicide, which causes the awakened Juliet to do the same; we have here a truly tragic chain of events, leading to a truly tragic ending, in which the young generation is decimated, and only the old are left. Romeo and Juliet are both dead, as are Tybalt and Mercutio, and Paris, and Benvolio has completely disappeared; we are left with only Montague, Capulet and his wife, Friar Laurence, and a few others, all of the older generation.

As Snyder points out, while there are two distinct genres at work in Romeo and Juliet, this does not signify any sort of disharmony, or obvious separation, between the two; “we are aware of premonitions of disaster before the death of Mercutio, and hopes for avoiding it continue until near the end of the play” (Snyder 180). Snyder’s assertions regarding the presence of both comedy and tragedy in Romeo and Juliet are absolutely valid; her claim, however, that, “Romeo’s future is now determined: he must kill Tybalt, he must run away” is both presumptuous and inaccurate. At this juncture, as mentioned earlier in this essay, Romeo is presented with a choice. He can kill Tybalt, sending events in a tragic direction, or he can let Tybalt live, to be punished by the Prince, enabling events to proceed in a much more favorable one. Which course is chosen is irrelevant here, as what matters is that he did have a choice regarding his actions, and, given this choice, he acted impulsively and immaturely, sealing his fate. The tragedy here, while definitely exacerbated from without, comes truly from within Romeo, as, while Mercutio’s death alone may not have been irrevocable, Tybalt’s truly is, and it is his death from which all subsequent tragedy stems.

“For never was a story of more woe / than this of Juliet and her Romeo” (V.3.310). The tragic ending of this play is summed up perfectly by the Prince in its final lines, and it has been made all the more tragic by the fact that events were moving in such a positive direction in the first, comedic, half of the play. Romeo and Juliet functions as a comedy in its first two acts, with characters of a “lower” nature, love as a main force, and an almost certain marriage looming in the near future. With the death of Mercutio, precipitating that of Tybalt, the sequence of events proceeds in a tragic direction, leading to a truly tragic ending, with the younger generation gone, and only the old remaining. Susan Snyder’s assertions regarding this aspect of the play are both accurate and relevant, save for her claim that Romeo is left with no choice but to kill Tybalt in revenge for Mercutio’s death. Romeo’s choice is just that, a choice between two possible courses of action; it is Romeo’s decision to kill Tybalt that initiates the chain of tragic events which lead ultimately to his, and Juliet’s, deaths. The true tragedy is that Romeo abandoned his calm temperament just when it really could have made a difference; he couldn’t save Mercutio, but be could have saved himself and Juliet if only he hadn’t acted so rashly.

Suave perfume na cozinha... by Atelier Vanessa Maurer

Quatsch Comedy Club - Live & Unzensiert by 3min.de

Donald Margulies' play, Dinner With Friends, is a marvelously witty comedy with a potent drama beneath its shiny surface. Characters who would otherwise appear to have settled into almost rote and familiar routines in life are forced to question their assumptions about themselves and each other by the sudden dissolution of a friends' marriage. The result of that questioning is the knowledge that many relationships dissolve, or end in divorce, because: "I think [this is] what happens when...when practical matters begin to outweigh...abandon." (Margulies 85) But the power of Margulies' play lies not in carefully plotted, yet typical character transformation, rather it is in the clever and decisive use of ritual by two of the characters to survive and enhance transformation.

At first glance this cleverly written play seems like a comedy about suburban manners and mores. Gabe and Karen are entertaining their friend Beth over dinner with stories about their recent trip to Italy. Margulies lets his characters develop their typical social dance across 10 pages of the opening of the first Act. It is an almost blindly enacted ritual because Beth is holding onto a secret pain that Gabe and Karen fail to notice while they're conducting what appears to be their customary repartee about food and travel and themselves. Finally, Beth blurts out her secret: "Oh, Karen...Tom's leaving me" (10) and we witness Margulies' deft examination of both the value of the typical and almost blindly enacted social rituals and the hazards of such customs.

At first, Margulies let us experience through Gabe and Karen's eyes the security and safety that results from accepted, customary, even assumed behavior. Then, with Beth and Tom's impending break-up and subsequent jockeying for position as the victim and victimizer-and the ensuing struggle to determine who will remain a "friend" of Gabe and Karen-we see these two characters awaken from their secure, safe, suburban existence to discover the pitfalls of behaving without thinking about the implications and meaning of one's actions.

In a delightful "flashback" to Gabe and Karen's courtship in Scene One of Act Two, Margulies reveals a playful childlike ritual the couple use: it's an intimate game that a parent might play with it's infant or toddler, but Margulies cautions, "no baby talk" (47).
KAREN
What.
GABE
You know what time it is?
KAREN
What.
GABE
It's time for me to scare you.
KAREN
(Playing along): Oh, no, please don't. (47-48)

Later, he reintroduces the same game in the last lines of the play and thereby reinforces the notion that ritual, properly used, can have both a deepening and nurturing affect upon a relationship while also creating security and safety, even breaking the tension that might result in a quarrel. This is the kind of behavior where "abandon" outweighs "practical matters". But, it's also a deliberate and thoughtfully employed behavior. And herein is the real importance of Margulies' play: a play that would otherwise constitute merely a re-visioning of familiar character development (or, in this case, characters) where revelatory transformation from blind behavior to awakened action occurs. The way couples survive, Margulies illustrates, is through play, friendship, and the rituals and behavior that encourage those aspects of a healthy relationship. Coincidentally, Beth and Tom's relationship crumbles in part because Tom seeks play, friendship and ultimately a healthy relationship outside the one he had with Beth.

HIRE A COMEDIAN

Quatsch Comedy Club 2 - Live & Unzensiert by 3min.de

The Connxtions Comedy Club of Toledo, Ohio offers a chance to see big name comedians in the smaller city. These comedians appear all over the country, and come here to bring their acts to the Midwest. Connections, or Connxtions as they prefer, is the premier location in Northwest Ohio to see established and new comedians flex their comedy muscles.

Located at 5319 Heatherdowns Blvd., The Comedy Club offers a chance to book a show online off their website or by calling their front ticket counter. For information on upcoming shows or comedians that may be playing there, they have a 24 hour number that updates weekly. That phone number is 419-867-9041. The Club is open Wednesday and Thursday night at 8:00 PM, and Friday and Saturday have two shows, one at 8:00 PM and one at 10:30 PM. The midweek shows offer drink and snack specials, and often feature local, less-known comedians with discounts to admission for college students.

When you enter into Connxtions, you see the ticket counter immediately to your right. The young lady that was there helped us determine which show time we wanted on the Saturday night that we went, and we opted for the soon to start 8:00 PM show. She recommended in the future that we call ahead and make reservations, especially for the later weekend shows as to not come only to find that the club was sold out. Adoring the walls in their lobby, you will see a variety of pictures, 8 x 10 glossy photos of the numerous faces that have been featured on their stage.

Entering into the actual club area, you will find that the bar is actually a bit small for a club. There is no one manning it as we come in, and after a few minutes that changes, and a man comes up to ask what we want. We grab the menu and take it to the table we are guided to, a small table just right for two people. A few tables are scattered around the stage, and larger tables line up behind that and to the sides. The table we have is within "heckle" distance, and we get comfortable and ready for the show. The room is dimly lit, and the TV's suspended from the corners of the room offer a few highlights of comedians and various TV shows. The music is pumped into the club also to get everybody ready for a night of comedy.

Once the comedy starts, we see two opening comedians, two local guys who have different styles and techniques. The main act takes the stage after about an hour, and usually is on the stage for about 1 hour. We went twice in a month's time to see the differences, and without mentioning the specific names, the guys that took the stage were both very funny, with national experience opening for big name comedians and appearing on shows such as Premium Blend on Comedy Central and Jay Leno. Listing their specific names is not necessary, since the comedians change every week. See their website or call the aforementioned phone number for further details.

Overall, the experience made for a fun night.. I would recommend this comedy club to anyone living or visiting the Toledo area for an enjoyable night out!

HIRE A COMEDIAN

tess comedy ears by meirion drinking beer on a greek beach right now ;

An informal survey of family and friends on which show was the funniest TV comedy of all time, brought unanimous agreement: Seinfeld. That doesn't happen very often in my family, but they are not alone in their opinion. Seinfeld claims the top spot on TV Guide's 2002 list of "50 Greatest Shows of All Time." Entertainment Weekly placed Seinfeld third of the best TV shows of the last 25 years.

While it's true that the show, according to the IMDB website has won 58 awards and 120 nominations, there are several other long-running TV comedies, draped in awards that could vie for this coveted spot, the funniest TV show of all time. So why Seinfeld, hands down?

The funniest TV comedy shows are often centered around a life situation, ritual or relationship: the field hospital in M*A*S*H; life with your too-close-for-comfort family in "Everything About Raymond"; the single woman trying to make a new life as in, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". All fodder for funny TV comedy.

But Seinfeld is not a situation comedy in this traditional format and therein lies a clue to the show's genius and why it holds the title by so many as the funniest TV comedy show ever. As the now famous line from one of its own episodes, Seinfeld is "a show about nothing." That is, it's more about the mundane minutes in-between the everyday events of life than the events themselves. As Jerry Seinfeld once said in an interview featured on www.ew.com, "it's a show about conversation....a show about being a human being,"

With that deceptively simple formula, Jerry Seinfeld and his co-creator and producer, Larry David, cooked up some complex subplots and twists to illustrate the failings of its ensemble cast of characters. There is no one especially flawed character, no character the audiences love-to-hate. Instead, through the minutiae of everyday life, the audience sees how each character fails, so pathetically, to end the day honorably. Yet, does the viewer snub George or Jerry for their shortcomings? Do we sneer at Kramer because he fails to find life's purpose, or even a job? Or Elaine, because she appears so vain and shallow? No! The show makes no condemnations, and neither, in the end, do we. And again, that is the genius of the show at work and why it should carry the crown as the funniest TV show ever. As the best TV comedy ever, Seinfeld mirrors life, through its witty dialogue and insightful self-examiniation, revealing our faults to ourselves, being careful not to reject itself, or us, for who we are.

Perhaps that is part of the reason why teenagers today, too young to enjoy the show in its first airing, still enjoy it in reruns. According to www.sonypictures.com, Seinfeld still airs in over 200 markets around the U.S., and is especially popular among men and young adults. The show doesn't play favorites; viewers get to frown at the entire cast, every last self-absorbed one of them -and empathize with all of them too. There's a little bit of Jerry and his friends in all of us; and that is why Seinfeld leads the pack as the best TV comedy show ever. Its humanity endures.

HIRE A COMEDIAN

Comedy is Paramount by Edward Barnieh

There have been several very funny romance movies released in 2008, but I have narrowed it down to my personal pick of 5 that I really enjoyed and think are the best romantic comedies of 2008.

27 Dresses

Released 1/13/08 DVD Released 4/29/08 Rated PG-13 Time 107 minutes

Cast: Katherine Heigl, James Marsden, Malin Ackerman, Judy Greer, Edward Burns, Brian Kerwin

The movie revolves around Jane and her "always the bridesmaid never the bride" story. She has been a bridesmaid 27 times and has all the themed dresses to prove it. She is secretly in love with none other than her boss of all men, when in steps her much flashier sister to steal him away. Now she is being asked to be the bridesmaid once again for her sister who is marring the man she is in love with. This movie has lots of cute little turns and funny moments, like Jane bouncing back and forth between two weddings on the same night. There are some teary moments but as we all know, in romantic comedies love always wins.

Definitely, Maybe

Released 2/14/08 DVD Released 6/24/08 Rated PG-13

Cast: Elizabeth Banks, Abigail Breslin, Isla Fisher, Kevin Kline, Kevin Corrigan, Derek Luke, Ryan Reynolds, Rachel Weisz

So as a kind of bedtime story Will begins to recount his past and relationships with three different women. He changes their names so Maya has to guess which one is her mother in the story. Maya begins to put all the pieces of the puzzle together to get her answer and also discovers that love is never simple or easy. As Will tells the story to Maya she helps him realize that it's never too late to go back or for a happy ending. This was a sweet story and it keeps you guessing throughout as to who really is Maya's mother.

Then She Found Me

Released 4/25/08 DVD Released 9/02/08 Rated R Time 100 minutes

Cast: Helen Hunt, Colin Firth, Bette Midler, Matthew Broderick, Ben Shenkman

This is a story of a school teacher, April Epner and her path to find personal fulfillment. After a separation from her husband, and the death of her adopted mother, April gets contacted by her apparent birth mother. She is a local talk show host. She tries to be the mother to April she was never able to be. April finds comfort in the arms of one of her student's parent, only to find that life's questions can't be solved by a simple relationship. This is a good movie Bette Midler is great, as always and Helen Hunt does a good job in this one as well.

Made Of Honor

Released 5/2/08 DVD Released 9/16/08 Rated PG-13

Cast: Patrick Dempsey, Michelle Monaghan, Sydney Pollack, Kadeem Hardison, Beau Garrett, Kevin McKidd, Kelly Carlson, Busy Philipps, Kathleen Quinlan, James Sikking

Tom and Hannah have been platonic friends for ten years. She wants to be married but just hasn't met Mr. Right, Tom is happy being single. Just when Tom starts to think of himself as real relationship material, Hannah gets engaged. She asks him to be her maid of honor and he agrees, only to do everything he can to stop the wedding and woo her himself. There are lots of funny moments in this one. The whole idea of a guy being a maid of honor is funny.

What Happens In Vegas

Released 5/3/08 DVD Released 8/26/08 Rated PG-13

Cast: Cameron Diaz, Ashton Kutcher, Dennis Farina, Rob Corddry, Treat Williams, Queen Latifah, Lake Bell

After a breakup and being fired from a job, where else would two people go to celebrate? Vegas. After a mix up at the hotel Joy and Jack get to know each other a little too well one night out partying. They wake the next morning only to find that they have somehow become married to each other. After one hits the jackpot of a slot machine with the others quarter, they both discover that because they are married they would have to split the money. They spend the better part of the movie pulling schemes to undermine each other to get their hands on the loot. They soon find themselves falling in love somewhere in between all the backstabbing. This is a very funny movie. Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher work great opposite each other. I laughter until I cried. It was that funny.

Out of all the movies I have listed here I would have to say that What Happens In Vegas is my personal pick for the year. There are so many funny moments and of course love always prevails.
